Provisional scheduling allows project owners to pencil in a job for a date and time before an installer or engineer is confirmed. The job can then be delegated to an installer partner, who manages the final assignment of engineers and start times.
How It Works
[Pencil It In] ──► [Delegate (Optional)] ──► [Allocate Engineer] ──► [Confirm]
Pencil It In: The project owner provisionally schedules a job for a specific date and time.
Delegate It (Optional): The owner assigns the job to an installer partner.
Allocate an Engineer: The owner (or installer partner) assigns an engineer and refines the execution time.
Confirm It: The job converts to a standard scheduled job and appears in the assigned engineer's app.
Key Terms
| Term | Meaning |
| Owner | The organization that owns the project. Owners set the job date/time and decide whether to delegate. |
| Installer | A partner company to whom a job has been delegated. Installers allocate their own internal engineers. |
| Provisional / Unassigned | A job with a set date but no confirmed engineer. These sit in a dedicated lane on the schedule. |
| Provisionally Scheduled / Planned | The status displayed on a job once it has been pencilled in. |
Getting Started
Account Setup: Provisional scheduling is managed per account and project type. If you do not see the Provisionally Schedule button or the Provisional / Unassigned lane, contact your JumpTech account manager to enable it.
Installer Partners: To delegate jobs, your account must have at least one installer partner configured. Until partner accounts are linked, delegation options remain hidden and scheduling operates as normal.
How to Provisionally Schedule a Job
Provisional scheduling is primarily managed directly from the Schedule tab:
Click on the Schedule tab.
Locate the unassigned job card. Eligible jobs display a Plan option on the card (this option only appears for enabled project types).
(Optional) Filter the jobs using the Filter button and select the jobs in Ready to Plan status. Filter your destination view using the My Tradespeople or Subcontractors buttons.
Drag the job card to the appropriate row:
Internal Engineer: You can assign specific internal tradespeople immediately.
Subcontractor / Installer Partner: You can only assign the partner organization; they will assign their own engineer.
In the details panel, select the date, start time, and end time.
Click Plan.
Result: The job status updates to Planned.
Without an assigned engineer, it appears in the Provisional / Unassigned lane.
With an assigned engineer, it appears in their calendar row marked as provisional.
Note: The interface remains in Provisional Mode for your entire session. To create a firm, confirmed booking instead, use the standard scheduling action.
Using the Schedule Screen
The scheduling interface includes specialised tools for handling provisional work:
Provisional / Unassigned Lane: Positioned at the top of the schedule, this holds all jobs that lack an assigned engineer or installer.
By Installer / By Engineer Toggle: Switches calendar rows between installer partner companies (Subcontractors) and your internal team (Tradespeople).
Drag-and-Drop Rules: Drag a job onto an engineer's row to allocate them, or onto an installer's row to delegate it. Ineligible rows are greyed out.
Note: Switching views clears your selected job and closes the details pane unless an edit is currently in progress. The By Installer toggle is hidden if no installer partners exist or if you are logged in as a sub-account user.
Managing Delegated Jobs
For Project Owners
Delegating: Switch view to By Installer, drag the job to the partner's row, and save.
Updating Details: After delegating, you can still edit the date and time. However, you cannot drag the job to another installer or engineer directly from the calendar.
Reassigning an Installer: If you attempt to drag a delegated job, you will see:
Job Already Assigned — This job has been assigned to an installer and cannot be moved. Unassign it from the project view first.
To move the job, open the Project View, unassign the current installer, and delegate it again from the Schedule screen.
For Installer Partners
When a job is delegated to your organization:
Date: Locked. The owner controls the scheduled date.
Start & End Time: Editable. Adjust these using the time fields in the details pane.
Engineer Assignment: Editable. Assign any engineer from your internal team.
Re-delegation: You can drag the job to pass it to another installer in your own network.
Planning Map & Project List
Planning Map: Provisional jobs display as purple pins (or purple cluster pins for grouped jobs).
Use the Toggle provisionally scheduled control to show or hide these pins.
Click any pin to view job details or access the Provisionally Schedule action.
Projects List: Filter by
Job Status$\rightarrow$Provisionally Scheduledto view all pencilled-in jobs across your organization.
Engineer App Visibility
To prevent confusion and avoid unintended double-bookings:
Provisional jobs do not appear in the engineer's calendar or job list in the Atom app, even if an engineer is assigned.
Provisional jobs do not block schedule availability or generate clash warnings against standard bookings.
Jobs only sync to the engineer's Atom app once converted to a normal (confirmed) schedule.
Summary of Permissions
| Role / State | Change Date | Change Time | Reassign / Move |

| Owner (After delegating) | Yes | Yes | No (Must unassign in Project view first) |
| Installer (Delegated job) | No (Locked) | Yes | Yes (Assign own engineer or pass on) |
Troubleshooting & Frequently Asked Questions
Why is dragging a job sideways to change the time failing?
In the By Installer view, dragging horizontally across the calendar row may be rejected. Adjust times directly using the Start Time and End Time fields in the details pane instead.
Why can't I see the "By Installer" toggle?
Your account either does not have installer partners configured, or you are currently signed in with sub-account permissions that restrict partner management.
Does a provisional job reserve an engineer's time slot?
No. Provisional jobs are non-binding placeholders and will not throw collision or clash warnings if another job is scheduled over the same time slot.
How do I verify a job was provisionally scheduled?
Check that its status displays as Provisionally Scheduled / Planned, verify it appears in the Provisional / Unassigned lane (or as a purple map pin), and check the project's audit log for an entry recording the action.
